Currently freelancinging in Los Angeles, Ms. Fertik was the Senior photographer for the University of Southern California News Service for the past fifteen years. Prior to her position at USC, Ms. Fertik worked as a full time staff photographer for the Burlington Free Press, Vermont's largest daily paper for six years. Her works have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, Time Magazine, Masa Acher ( the Israeli National Geographic), the Philadelphia Inquirer and Detroit Free Press, The Pasadena Star News,.Her photo show " From Tesfa to Tikva" has been exhibited at The Museum of Tolerance,LA. the Santa Barbara Jewish Community Center; The Fisher Gallery at the University of Southern California; the Fine Arts Gallery at Cal State Los Angeles; Loyola Marymount University; Occidental College; The Jewish Community Centers of Tucson AZ and Albequerque NM; Borders Books of Long Beach and San Diego, and the United Nations, Palais des Nations, Geneva Switzerl. This photodocumentation project has been an ongoing labor of love for the past eleven years. Irene is looking for a book publisher, but until that time will continue documenting this vital community in their new/old homeland.

She has taught at Otis-Parson, the University of Vermont, The University of Southern California, and The International Center of Photography,NYC. She is an affiliated artist with The Centure for Jewish Culture and Creativity.
